Chapters 20-21 THE END

In Chapter 20, Kira sees the leader coming. Somehow the thing Matty said happened Kira and the leader met in the beyond. They started talking and the leader told Kira to tell Matty to use his gift even though he told him not to use it in the begining of the trip. Matty is so much hurt and he can't even use his arms. He doesn't know how to use his gift like that.
In Chapter 21. Matty used his gift and everything in the forest and Village just was fixed. All his scars were gone. Matty received his true name from the leader it was Healer. Kira told the leader that Matty wanted to be messenger but the leader said "No. There have been other messengers, and there will be more to come. Your true name is Healer."

I think that this book was really interesting. How Matty didn't know what his gift was until the end of the book and he thought all he could do was "to fix a frog" was really interesting. And I also think that the main point of this book is that; how some people don't know what they are capable of doing until they need to do something.

Chapters 18-19

In Chapter 18, Seer is waiting for Matty and Kira, worried. Also Jean is really excited to meet Kira, she says that "they could have twin gardens". Leader finally tells Seer what's going on in the forest. Leader tells him that he's gonna go to save them. 
In chapter 19, Kira is really weak. She tells Matty to leave her behind and go. At this point Matty's arms are useless. Matty remembers how once he said to the leader about meeting in the halfway with their gift and he gives her the threaded needle, for her to see where the leader is but she's too weak to do that. Leader was so focused on finding Matty and Kira that he hadn't eat anything for a long time. The leader now went through everything that Kira and Matty went through. He tries to see beyond, that is the only thing thats left to do.

Do you think the leader is gonna be able to communicate with Kira? Why or why not?

Chapter 17

In Chapter 17, Matty and Kira are still trying to go to Village. But they can't really find their way around because of the bushes and vines that block the path, that Matty usually takes. The vines cut Matty's arms, and they are bleeding as they go, so is Kira's feet. Matty knows that it is gonna get worst but Kira doesn't. In the end of the chapter, Kira tells Matty that she sees a "young man with the blue eyes" coming to help them. Matty gets surprised, and tells Kira that he doesn't know where they are than remembers that the leader could see beyond. He even jokes about his gift he says "I can fix a frog."

What do you think will happen next? Do you think the leader is gonna be able to help Matty and Kira?

Chapters 15-16

In Chapters 15 and 16 Matty and Kira start their journey back to the Village. Matty notices a lot of weird things going on in the forest. For example; the paths that Matty just took 1 and a half days ago were covered with bushes. Also it was so hard to see anything. Matty was worried even though didn't wanna get Kira scared but she thought it was normal. Kira tells Matty that she never entered the Forest before, because it always seemed so "frightening" to her. Seer asks the leader if he can see beyond, if he can see Matty and Kira coming. Seer says that Matty's like a son to him, so he is really worried. "The leader is really worried for Matty, Kira and the puppy, because he saw that Forest was shifting, moving, thickening, and preparing to destroy them."

Why do you think the forest is "shifting, thickening, and preparing to destroy them"?

Chapter 14

I think that Chapter 14 is the creepiest chapter in the book so far. Matty tries to tells Kira his gift, which is to fix anything. So he cuts his leg with a knife and just makes it go away. Kira also shows her gift to Matty. She can do anything with her hands. She can make pictures of the future. She tells Matty that she knew that he was going to come there the day before he did. Kira tells Matty that if they are gonna go, they should go fast because the forest is thickening and Matty remembers how the leader said the same thing. So Matty asks her, if she saw a guy with blue eyes that they call leader. For me the creepiest part is she says that she didn't see him but she "felt" him.

How do you think Kira "felt" the leader when she doesn't even know him?

Chapters 12-13

In Chapter 12 Matty is traveling in the forest with Frolic. He notices a lot of changes in the forest. In chapter 13, Matty finally arrives to his old village. He goes to Kira's house. Kira tells him and Frolic to get some sleep. From the moment he comes there, Matty thinks about how he saved the little puppies, and he thinks that he can fix Kira's leg.

Why do you think are there so many changes in the forest?

Do you think Matty can fix Kira's leg? Why or why not?

Chapters 10-11

The petition is done and they decide that they will except no more new ones in to the village. They have 3 more weeks, and Matty needs to go to all the communities and tell them the news. Seer wants Matty to go to his old village first and bring his daughter with him. I think that Seer really loves and misses his daughter, and even though he's blind he tells Matty that "I see with my heart". When Matty is with the leader, the leader tells Matty that he has a special gift too. All Matty wants is to get his real name and he wants it to be "Messenger". The leader tells Matty that maybe he shouldn't go because the forest is thickening but Matty really wants to go because first he promised Seer, and second, he believes that this will be the journey that is gonna give him his true name.

Do you think Matty is gonna bring Seer's daughter Kira back to the Village with him? Why or why not?

Chapter 9

In Chapter 9, there is this petition going on whether they should except new ones to the village or not. On his way to the marketplace Matty sees this woman, and starts talking with her. She tells Matty that she has a concern; that when she came here, she only brought one of her kids, Vladik, with her to just find the way first, then her sister was going to bring the other kids, but now she heard that the border will close. So she's thinking of leaving Vladik there, and going back to be with her little kids. Matty tells her how the voting will be tomorrow and how they can't vote because they don't have their true names.

What do you think is gonna happen? Is the border gonna close or not?

Chapter 8

In Chapter 8, Matty talks to Jean about how Mentor is changing. Jean tells him that Mentor "traded his deepest self". He's becoming taller and straighter, and the birthmark on his face is dissappeared. Then Matty goes to the leader and talks with him about this Trade Mart and the leader tells Matty that he wishes they just close the Trade Mart. Matty tells the leader how he wants a Gaming Machine but Seer says no. They also talk about how it's more than just a Gaming Machine and how Mentor is changing.

Why do you think this Gaming Machine is so special for everyone?

Chapters 6-7

In chapters 6 and 7 all the newcomers are coming to Village. The Trade Mart is tomorrow and Seer and Matty notice something weird is going on in the Trade Mart. So Matty decides to go but he promises Seer that he wouldn’t trade anything but he would just listen and watch.

Matty goes to the Trade Mark but he gets surprised when he sees no ones carrying stuff. The first person who goes up to the stage is Mentor and when the Trademaster says “Trade for what?” he says “same as before” but Matty doesn’t really know what that means. While he is talking to Seer, Seer asks him a lot of questions and Matty remembers that the birthmark on Mentor’s face is gone.

Do you think the birth mark on Mentor’s face has anything to do with the trade mart? Why?

Chapters 1-5

In the Messenger chapter's 1-5, Matty is basically spending most of his time with Seer, who is a blind man. Every evening Matty reads a book to Seer and they have so much fun, but Matty thinks that they are doing the same thing everyday and tells Seer that his friend Ramon has this Gaming Machine, and it's so much fun; when you win the game, it gives you candy. But Seer, reminds Matty that Ramon's family traded something in order to get the Gaming Machine and nobody knows what it is. After that they see that the Gaming Machine's gone. On page 35, after thinking for a moment Seer says "It's much more than just a Gaming Machine."

What is the mystery with the Gaming Machine?
